IMPORTANT:

  • GBS, Gestational Diabetes, meconium, low grade fever, and C-19:  IT IS SAFE TO ENCAPSULATE. If your care provider has concerns, DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO TAKE YOUR PLACENTA. Once your placenta leaves your sight, it is not safe to encapsulate. I cannot encapsulate placentas that have been sent to pathology.

  • Ownership: Your placenta is yours as much as your baby is! Only you have agency over your placenta.

  • No Refunds: There are no refunds for placenta encapsulation services. Due diligence is a must.

Placenta Transport Kit

You will receive your transport kit within one week of booking your service.

When it arrives, open it up and make sure everything is included. Sometimes I miss something (hey, I’m human and an ADHDer!), so like to have you guys double-check me.

Inside, you’ll find:

  • Instruction card & property card – Your name, the service you booked, and any upgrades you purchased will be listed. If anything looks off, let me know ASAP. Keep the card in the kit so your birth partner can show it to your birth team.

  • Two small zip-closure bags for ice (your nurses can help with these).

  • One large zip-closure bag for your placenta (with your name on it).

  • Chux pad & large biohazard bag.

  • A few extra treats for you to use on the big day.

Also included is a referral card. Here’s how it works:

  • For every friend who books with me before you pay your final balance, I’ll deduct $25 from your total.

  • Your friend will also get $25 off their total.

  • They don’t need the card to get the discount—the card is just a handy reminder for you to spread the word. Just make sure they put your name on their intake form.

Share it everywhere: social media, birth classes, prenatal yoga, or anywhere you see a pregnant mama!

Next steps:

  1. Read the included storage and packing instructions included in the kit.

  2. Make sure your birth partner knows the process.

  3. Stick the kit in your birth bag—make sure the card stays with the kit! Remember to stick it where you’ll easily find it if your bag isn’t ready yet.

Home Births: Follow the instructions in case a transfer to a hospital becomes necessary.

The Big Day

  • Pick-ups usually happen between 9 AM and 6 PM. I’m available to answer questions during those hours.

  • Text me anytime when your placenta is ready for pick-up—I’ll respond ASAP during work hours. Don’t worry if you don’t hear back overnight: my business line goes silent at 6 PM so I can be fully present with my kids, and it’s back on at 9 AM. I do check periodically, so texting anytime is fine—I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

  • Pick-Up is Curbside: I'll need someone to meet me at the entrance to your birthplace. Let me know if this isn't possible for your situation and we'll make arrangements.

  • On-Call Hours: Pick-ups typically occur between 9 AM - 6 PM. Don’t worry! Your placenta is safe if packaged correctly.

  • Provider Concerns: Do not let the bagged placenta leave your sight until you speak with me. NO MATTER WHAT.

  • Follow Packaging Instructions: Carefully follow the guidelines that are included with your kit.

  • Keep It Cool: Pack with plenty of ice. Refresh every 4-5 hours. It does not need to be frozen.

  • Room Temp: It's okay for a couple of hours at room temperature. No need to deal with it during your golden hour.

  • Hospital Restrictions: If you’re informed that you can’t keep your placenta in your room (this is rare but worth mentioning), simply have someone place it in your car for safekeeping. If it needs to be sent home with someone, please ensure the destination is within my service area or closer than your birthplace. If it’s further away, an additional fee for pickup may apply.

  • Rare Cases: If your provider wants to test your placenta for any reason (again, rare but worth mentioning), they can take a small sample -- about the size of a thumbnail. The remainder should be safely packaged for me, and we’ll proceed once the results are available.

A Word About Refunds

A quick heads-up about my policy:

Since I implemented this policy, I haven’t had a single client lose her placenta! Before, I was seeing placentas get lost about once a month Before that, it was happening about once a month—usually because providers insisted a meconium-stained placenta wasn’t safe for encapsulation—which made running my business as a single mom way more stressful.

I limit the number of clients I take each month so I can give every mom the care and attention she deserves. When you book, that’s your spot—and I count on the payment to keep things running smoothly.

This means it’s important that your placenta is properly stored and ready for pickup. Refunds are only possible for verified medical issues, like a confirmed placental infection (with documentation).

Refunds will not be issued for:

  • Allowing your placenta to be sent to pathology

  • Improper storage (e.g., leaving it at room temperature)

  • GBS, meconium, low-grade fever, or COVID-19

The overwhelming majority of clients have no issues at all! And remember—GBS, meconium, low-grade fever, and COVID-19 are not contraindications for encapsulation.
